April 2009

After 2 months on the road around the U.S.,  I am back in my apartment in NYC. In these last 2 months I spent only 5 days at home, so it is nice to sleep on my own bed and have a drink with Francois, my roommate.

I had a great time during this trip.  For sure you saw that my stay in San Francisco was just awesome.

Let me talk about Louisiana.  I love the French influence in this state. The food is just “Gianormous”: crawfish, turtle soup and all the Creole cuisine. Yummy!!!  Great food calls for great wines. Skalli Family Wines can now be appreciated in several different locations in New Orleans:

  • Lilette is pouring the Robert Skalli Chardonnay and Maison Bouachon Tavel (Rose)
  • Restaurant Patois felt also in love for the Maison Bouachon Tavel
  • Orleans Grapevine will pour the Maison Bouachon Gigondas and Cotes du Rhone

Have a lunch or dinner in one of these places and then let’s go to Bourbon Street.  But, be careful!  You could be in trouble very quickly… lol

It is interesting to see what the people think about Texas. I knew French people had a prejudice about the Texans: cowboys, horses, cows and oil. However I can tell you the rest of the U.S. have the same ones.

I enjoy the fact they say “y’all” instead of “you” in the great state of Texas .  What is even funnier is that ”y’all” can be used in the singular or in plural, which gets me in trouble sometimes… lol.

I have been in Dallas, Houston, San Antonio and Austin. I had a great time in all these different cities and met very sympathetic persons and also some pretty girls. However one city really stood out to me–Austin.

You have live music everywhere, from Rock’n Roll to country music. It is a blend of unique atmospheres and amazing, friendly people. As a big fan of Lance Amstrong (yes a lot of French people like him!!!!) I visited ”Six Lounge”, his bar in downtown Austin. I had a margarita on the rooftop; nice experience. Congratulation to Lance on his comeback and his foundation for cancer. See you in the “Tour de France 2009″ Lance ;-).

Jerome, RNDC Austin Fine Wine Manager, let me discover some very nice places in Austin.  Thanks a lot, I had a very good Thursday night!!!!

Moreover, the Skalli wines were received very well by the restaurant and retail industry. You will be able to find the Robert Skalli Chardonnay, Robert Skalli Cabernet Sauvignon and Robert Skalli Pinot Noir in all the Central Market locations in Texas… and perhaps you will meet me there in a few months again… Enjoy your glass of Skalli wine in the beautiful state of Texas!

This wine blogger, Thea, writes an interesting story about the Robert Skalli and Fortant wines.  She got to meet our winemaker Laurent, when he was in San Francisco.  I wished I could be there too.  This sounds like they had a good time enjoying wines together.
